Rafting Guide & Kayaker


Compensation: Hourly wage based on experience in the position, education level, and language proficiency.
Contract period: Full Time | Seasonal position June/July 2025
Location: Voss, Norway
 
Job Role:
You will guide safe river trips on up to Grade III & IV whitewater. 
This person must possess strong interpersonal skills, be able to deliver high levels of customer service, have excellent group management skills, be a strong critical thinker, and have the ability to problem-solve. You will need to be flexible and adaptable in tailoring trips to suit individual needs, abilities and expectations.

Essential to have a Driver’s license category B, and the Taxi Driver License endorsement, which gives the ability to drive a van up to 8 passengers. If you have a Class B license, then it’s easy to get the Taxi Endorsement. Needs to take a theory test and get a health check with the doctor.

  • Ensure trips are run in a safe and timely manner
  • Reliable, self-motivated and enthusiastic with strong communication skills and the ability to talk with people from different cultures and backgrounds
  • Physically fit and enjoy being outdoors in all weathers
  • Cleaning and drying of client paddling gear (wetsuits, PFD’s, splash jackets and neoprene booties)
  • Ensure that vehicles are cleaned and fueled as required after the tours
  • Maintain a clean and organized work space at base and storage room
  • Engage with guests and be attentive to their needs
  • Must be able to lift, load and unload rafts/kayaks from a trailer or to a car roof (the raft will be lifted by two persons, at time)
  • Must be able to work on team environment
  • To deliver informative trips educating guests about the local culture and history
  • Conduct tour talks while driving to locations and at viewing points along tour route
  • Be aware of weather forecast and monitor weather conditions: river levels, wind, rain and air temperature

  • Physically fit and enjoy being outdoors all day in all weather conditions
  • You need to love what you do
 
Qualifications Required:
  • Rafting Guide Certification on rivers grade III and above or at least three years previous experience on Grade III & IV
  • Whitewater kayak qualification or at least three years previous experience guiding on up to Grade III & IV whitewater
  • Current first-aid certification including CPR (minimum 16 hours course within the last 3 years)
  • Driver’s license category B, and the Taxi Driver License endorsement
  • Must have excellent spoken and written English skills

Preference will be given to candidates with the following
  • Candidates with a Driver’s license category D1 for minibus are at a strong advantage.
  • Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness First Responder (8 to 10 days course)
  • Whitewater Rescue Technician Certification
  • A degree or equivalent in Outdoor Recreation
  • At least three years experience working in the outdoors and adventure tourism industries
  • Have experience guiding/leading other outdoor activities such as mountain biking, hiking an stand up SUP boarding
  • Norwegian language skills as well as any other additional languages spoken
